Lionsgate today [Feb 3] confirmed its acquisition of North American rights to Corsan’s Sundance hit The Devil’s Double, as first reported on Screendaily on Jan 27.
The mini-major has partnered with production and financing house Herrick Entertainment on the story of Uday Hussein and his body double, both played by Dominic Cooper in a breakout performance. Lee Tamahori directed.
“Mr Tamahori and Mr Cooper’s collaboration has resulted in an innovative and electrifying film and an unprecedented performance by Mr Cooper,” Corsan CEO Paul Breuls said.
“We couldn’t be prouder to have produced and financed this film and we’re ecstatic to have Lionsgate as our partners to bring this riveting film to the North American market.”
Lionsgate’s head acquisitions executive Jason Constantine said the film “falls squarely in the Lionsgate sweet spot” and took audiences to “an unforgettable world.”
Lionsgate’s Constantine, Eda Kowan and Wendy Jaffe negotiated alongside Norton Herrick and Mickey Mayerson of Loeb & Loeb on behalf of Herrick Entertainment with Paradigm Motion Picture Finance Group, CAA and Harris Tulchin on behalf of the filmmakers. Paradigm represents Corsan and arranged financing.
